We’ve had the Campaign of Safe Cosmetics in the U.S.A. that tackled and revealed the list of lethal lipsticks, but had Paula Begoun of Cosmetic Cop have another opinion on it.
Yes, we do have a Philippine version, and it was shown last night in Korina Sanchez’s show.
Of course, the kikay girl in me wouldn’t pass the opportunity on what the segment was all about considering that I’ve been following the issue closely.
Here’s what I have learned from the segment :
1. The Philippines actually has lead limit on the contents of lipsticks. I was not able to remember it so much that I might err if I type it in, but I’ll try to research on this stuff.
2. Rated K actually used QUALIBET’s tests for lead content in lipsticks as basis for their results.
3. Tests revealed that there are indeed lipsticks that are sold in the market that has exceeded the lead limit content in lipsticks.
With regards to all these, I saw one nanosecond video of them testing lead by swiping lipstick on gold rings. I’ve read somewhere that it wasn’t really a credible way of testing lead content in a lipstick - I’m on the fence here on this point, but at least they have conducted other more professional tests on lead content than the ring-swiping. It’s also such a shame that the segment did not reveal which brands of lipstick exceeded the lead content limit. I hope that they would publish a lipstick review on this soon, for I am so curious - I wear lipstick everyday, and I want to know which ones to avoid.
I’m not avoiding lipstick at all, because I’m sure that there are brands that don’t have serious lead content, but hey, I’m also glad I’ve got vegan lipsticks!
