Eyelash Extensions, Anyone?

| July 9th, 2007 | Eye Love

eyelash extensions A few weeks ago, over dinner, I noticed that my best friend J looked quite beautiful that night – I think she did something to her eyes. I hesitated on asking at first since I knew she wasn’t into the “noticeable makeup” look that I sometimes sport via my smokey eye makeup application. Well, I asked her anyway if she applied a thicker line of eyeliner for her eyes were more “wide-open” and had that deep-set features that only eyeliner or mascara could achieve, and she instantly laughed me off, “No, it’s not the eyeliner you noticed , it’s my lashes! I have eyelash extensions now!” I was wowed when I started scrutinizing ( yes, the curious girl that I am ), and her lashes were indeed longer, and perfectly curled. Her chinita eyes were more “open” and emphasized with her extensions.

Well, I slept over her place that night, and I almost died laughing when she told me in the morning, as we woke up, “Isn’t that great to wake up with beautiful eyes?” Hahaha! Well, that sort of made me nostalgic about my rebonded hair – I just loved it when my hair looked great in the morning even if I kept on tossing and turning on the bed during night time.

I just realized that to be able to achieve the beautiful eye lash extensions that J had, I had to curl my lashes using my ever-reliable Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, and apply it with my favorite Blinc Kiss Me Mascara ( which I think, is the best mascara, ever created ), and I see my lashes emphasized, eyes more wide awake and alive, but longer? Not as long as hers. It added some length, alright, but seeing hers was really a different story!

How do eyelash extensions work?

The entire procedure usually takes about two hours. First, you’ll lie down while an eyelash extension specialist uses surgical tape to hold down your bottom lashes, which aren’t used in the procedure.

Then, between 25 and 40 individual silk lashes are dipped one by one into a bonding agent and applied to your existing individual lashes. The procedure is painless, even relaxing. – from Lifescript

I’ve also learned that she had hers done for one thousand pesos ( about $ 20 ), but also learned that they need to be redone every two to three weeks. I don’t know if I’ll be able to maintain eyelash extensions if they have to be maintained that often. Even if that was the case, I still can’t believe that eyelash extensions could totally cancel out eyelash curling and mascara application in a heartbeat! Incredible.

How about you? What are your thoughts about eyelash extensions? If you have tried it, how was it?

I heard they needed to be redone every two months, not weeks. Also, if you swim a lot, they are not good for you.
