Hi, everyone! Welcome to Kikay Kits! I am absolutely thrilled to be your resident kikay, and before we start this kikay journey, I thought I’d share some things about me.
Well, they say that people have priorities. My friend loves collecting watches and spends a whole fortune buying them, another friend spends a fortune improving the stereo system of his car ( I don’t know, maybe open a disco inside his car? kidding! ), and me, well, I just happen to save up for things that I deem are important to me - well, skin care, hair care, makeup, and anything to feed my vain self! Hahaha!
It all started when I was…four years old, I think. Mom still had her parlor, and I remember my bangs getting permed ( yes, it was the trend yesterday! ) . I would adoringly admire her beautiful eye makeup, and swore that someday, I’d be as beautiful as her. Then in 5th grade, I remember pleading my yaya to sneak off to buy me my first powder compact - was it Angel’s Face or Johnson and Johnson’s? As young as I was, I would be fascinated and easily convinced by commercials of beautiful girls endorsing products that would make one beautiful. During highschool, I got my first dose of astringent use ( J&J ), as mom started teaching me how to apply makeup for school plays.
I would always sign up for being makeup committee during schoolplays and enjoy myself around the company of cosmetics. I believed that they weren’t things that would hide the true you, but rather, things that would bring out the best in you. I remember , during my junior prom, on how happy I was when the makeup artist applied smokey eye makeup on me that brought more depth on the hazel brown color of my eyes, and how the yellow undereye corrector deducted years and traces of tiredness in my eyes.
The world of beautifying oneself is just so amazing. I want to point out that it is beyond superficial - when people become happy because they feel beautiful, confidence kicks in and their lives are lived far far with reason.
Even during college, my kikay self would not be suppressed. Friends would text and call me while they’re in the mall asking for advice on what to buy, as I gladly obliged. I loved helping people, and it was one of the reasons I started blogging. Within my whole course duration, I kept on relating my economic theories with vanity- thus, the birth of my first beauty blog, Beautynomics. And then I also ventured into the world of pure, unadulterated makeup, thus, The Mineral Makeup Blog. I’ve also started my own beauty business, that I absolutely love. Kikay Kits is a new journey for me as I explore, the must haves of every person - what they need inside their kikay kits. Each person has a different story to tell, each person has his/her own unique contents in their kikay kit.
The kikay in me is forever evolving, as my passion brings me to learn more and more everyday.
To end this entry, I want to share to everyone the poem I wrote way back in college, when our Creative Writing professor asked us to write about our favorite thing. Well, guess! Haha!
My life had changed
The moment I knew you existed
You transformed this pale, lifeless color of a lass
Into an overnight masterpiece
My loneliness ,
you mask by a whole new layer of confidence
My nature ,
you perfect by a mere dab of flawlessness
My sleepless nights,
You conceal with your creamy touch of radiance
My personality of pale further flushed with a color of life
My best features,
you enhance with your boost of pearly glow
Because of you,
My beliefs in love are further enhanced by the reddish tint of smile
My innocent smile is transformed into the lips of a temptress
My flaws are covered by the caring affection of a friend
My dry puckers are further nourished with a wet shine of seduction
You proudly line me up with the goddesses of beauty
You comfort me with your sweet strokes
Your colorful love never fails to make me feel good
For I am bound to you
and you are bound to me
Until the day ends
I lay in slumber,
we part with sorrow
You’re washed away with my torrents of tears
I see myself in the mirror that I could not recognize
Sometimes I feel empty when you’re not around
For you only bring color to my faint soul
But tomorrow, I shall embrace you again
As the world embraces me With you
